How do I Install the App

Teacher Dashboard is an application that is available from the Office 365 store and the Windows 10 store. More information can be found on the Getting Started page.

Why is the link to the Teacher Dashboard app not in the place where I expect it to be?

Unfortunately, this has nothing to do with the Teacher Dashboard app itself, but rather is determined by where your SharePoint administrator chose to install the app. You'll need to contact your administrator to move the link to the app if you believe it should sit somewhere different. Please click here to read a brief tutorial that explains how app shortcuts can be setup on your SharePoint tenant.

Why do I see the message "Sorry, you'll need to be setup first" when I click on the Teacher Dashboard app?

Teachers will see this message if they haven't been setup in Teacher Dashboard with the role of either 'teacher' or 'admin'. Although Teacher Dashboard is aware of all the users in your tenant, it doesn't automatically know which of them are administrators and teachers (as opposed to students). Your Teacher Dashboard administrator will need to assign either the 'teacher' or 'admin' role (or both) to the users that require Teacher Dashboard access, which can be done through the 'Admin | Users' screen in Teacher Dashboard. If you are not sure who your Teacher Dashboard administrator is, please consult the person who first signed up for the app as they will automatically be granted the 'admin' role.

What happens when an assignment is shared with a student?

When a teacher chooses to share an assignment with a student, they must first specify a 'Subject' and 'Assignment date' for the share. The file is then copied from the teacher's OneDrive to the student's OneDrive, and placed in a subject folder with the same name as that speciifed. Also placed in the subject folder is a folder called 'Completed', which is used by students to move their assignments into once ready for review. The subject folder sits inisde a date folder corresponding to the assignment date specified. If either of the subject or date folders don't exist at the time of sharing, they will be automatically created.

Why are some users missing from the Users page

Occasionally, user details may not be pulled through from Office 365. In this case, click on the 'Sync Users' link on the top right of the User management page. If you still do not see all of your users, please go to: https://teacherdashboard365.com/en/upgrade to re-consent to the Teacher Dashboard permissions. Once you have re-consented, please click on Sync users again.

How can I add students to classes and groups?

The Teacher Dashboard allows you to quickly add students to classes and groups through a simple to use drag-and-drop interface. There's also the ability to bulk assign students to classes through a CSV upload feature.

Can I create custom groups?

Yes. Every teacher can create their own public and private groups and add any users that they like. There is no limit to the number of groups you can create.

Can I bulk import classes, and automatically assign teachers/students?

Yes, you can. Our 'Sync classes' feature allows you to setup all your classes (and assign teachers/students) through a CSV import file, which can be generated from your School Management System (SMS) or Active Directory (AD). Ask your Teacher Dashboard administrator to login to Teacher Dashboard and choose 'Admin | Classes' from the main menu, then click the 'Sync classes' link to upload the file. Does Teacher Dashboard store sensitive information like passwords?

No. Teacher Dashboard doesn't store any passwords. When you log on to Teacher Dashboard, your username and password are authenticated against your Sharepoint site over an encrypted connection, and don't get saved anywhere.

How do students access their personal Student Dashboard?

Student Dashboard is accessed by your students using any of the following methods:

By clicking on the link in the email they receive when an assignment is sent to them
By navigating directly to their assignments management page at https://teacherdashboard365.com/portal. Your students can store this URL as a bookmark

Why do some users have an orange question mark next to their name?

Users with 'unprovisioned' OneDrives will appear with an orange question mark next to them. Unprovisioned users haven't accessed their OneDrive and therefore won't be able to receive shared documents or assignments, because their OneDrive storage does not get created by Microsoft until they try to use it for the first time. If you need to create classes for a new intake of students who will not have accessed their one drives there are various ways for an administrator to do so on their behalf. One such method is to use a "bulk provisioning tool" which you can read more about here.

How do I add students to the Teacher Dashboard?

You don't need to. Teacher Dashboard automatically recognises the all students in your Office 365 tenant, without the need for any onboarding or account creation.

How can I add students to classes and groups?

The Teacher Dashboard allows you to quickly add students to classes and groups through a simple to use drag-and-drop interface. There's also the ability to bulk assign students to classes through a CSV upload feature.

What folders do students see for my class?

All students see the same basic folder structure regardless of whether they are primary/elementary/middle school or a secondary/high school or college. All folders are primarilly organised by year/month/day/subject. We find that this is the easiest way for students to manage their work assignments. The subject folders created for each student are only visible to the student and their class teacher.

How do students access Teacher Dashboard?

Students don't access Teacher Dashboard. Students continue to use Office365 and Teacher Dashboard simply creates the right structures for this interaction. A student visiting OneDrive will see the folders that Teacher Dashboard creates, and assignments that have been shared with them. Teacher Dashboard does not introduce any new tools for students.

Are my private groups shared with others?

No your private groups are you for only, other teachers in your school don't see or have access to them.

A user's OneDrive hasn't been provisioned yet

If a user in one of the classes you are importing hasn't provisioned their OneDrive on Office 365 yet, then Teacher Dashboard won't be able to locate them. This is because Office 365 only registers a user in the SharePoint user list once their OneDrive is active. To provision a OneDrive, follow the steps set out in the help page Missing Users

The Teacher Dashboard user list needs resyncing

Teacher Dashboard keeps a cache of the Office 365 userlist in order to speed up user searches. The cache is refreshed on a regular basis automatically, but occasionally requires manual refreshing by a Teacher Dashboard admin, especially if a user has just been recently added to Office 365. To refresh the cache manually, go to 'Admin' | 'Users', and click on 'Sync users' in the top righthand corner of the screen.
